ForeFlight

www.ForeFlight.com

Greetings, Pilot!

The first time you see your aircraft position on a taxi diagram or approach plate inside ForeFlight, you will crack a smile a mile wide.

If you've never experienced the joy that comes from a capability like this - it's time. Allow us to introduce you to ForeFlight 3.9 with TrueTaxi™ and TruePlates™, made possible by our license to Seattle Avionics' ChartData technology.

TrueTaxi™ and TruePlates™ were painstakingly crafted to be the best-of-breed geo-referenced taxi diagram and plate solution for iPad and iPhone. This capability is included as part of our newest plan, ForeFlight Pro - an affordable upgrade from ForeFlight HD.

We're also proud to announce full support for iPad 2, which is available on March 11. Read on to learn more about 3.9, ForeFlight Pro, our support for external iPad GPS receivers, and our favorite iPad gear.

If you're attending Sun 'n Fun 2011, make sure to stop by the ForeFlight Booth in Hangar E and say hi!

The ForeFlight Team

ForeFlight 3.9 with TrueTaxi™, TruePlates™ and Brightness!

ForeFlight Mobile HD 3.9 is a huge update with enhancements to help improve situational awareness. New features include:

  • Add geo-referencing data to plates and taxi diagrams with ForeFlight Pro. Your aircraft's location appears directly on the plate with a blue, pulsating icon.
  • Blue box overlaid on the plate to indicate geo-referenced area.
  • GPS HUD on Plate viewer with groundspeed, track, and GPS readouts.
  • Brightness adjustment with further dimming for night ops.
  • GPS HUD on iPhone Maps view.
  • Aircraft editing on iPad.
  • In-app settings.

To enable TrueTaxi™ and TruePlates™, you need to purchase a ForeFlight Pro plan. Existing customers upgrading to Pro will have any remaining time under their current subscription pro-rated and credited towards the purchase of ForeFlight Pro. Click here to upgrade.

New users can purchase the Pro package online for $149.99/year. This includes the traditional ForeFlight HD subscription, plus the new geo-referenced features for approaches and taxi diagrams.

We're still offering the same base subscription for $74.99/year with all of the features you expect: bulk downloads, NACO plates, moving map, geo-referenced VFR sectionals, geo-referenced IFR enroute charts, radar, satellite, and more. Upgrading is optional. You can upgrade at any time to the Pro plan in order to see your aircraft overlaid on approach plates and taxi diagrams.

Read our blog post for full details and release notes of v3.9. We have also created a new FAQ specifically for questions about TrueTaxi™, TruePlates™, and geo-referencing. Geo-referenced plates and diagrams are not a replacement for your aircraft's avionics.

Flight Departments Adopt ForeFlight

Over 35 flight departments have adopted ForeFlight HD. From charter operators to Fortune 50 flight departments, ForeFlight's ease of use and legendary support are becoming the new industry standard.

Sign up today in minutes - no quotes, no purchase orders, and a solution that's 1/10th the cost of alternatives.

GPS Receivers and Gear

We're delighted to announce support for external GPS receivers for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch.

Our favorite is Bad Elf GPS, a small, directly attached GPS receiver. Bad Elf avoids the need for charging a separate device while providing high quality GPS fixes for ForeFlight.

We're always looking for new gear to recommend. If you'd like us to kick the tires on something, send us an email. Right now we're testing kneeboards from Sporty's, MyGoFlight, and iPro Aviator.

Gone Zulu!

Our old headsets were dying, so we were in the market for something new. We had a chance to demo Lightspeed Zulus, and as soon as we paired the headsets with our iPhones, we were hooked. Now the whole team flys Zulu!

Order a Lightspeed Zulu today at Amazon or Sporty's.

The Lightspeed folks also give back to aviation through the Lightspeed Aviation Foundation, which is uniquely funded through product sales only - no personal or corporate donations. A portion of the dollars spent on Zulus get circulated back into the aviation community. Good stuff.

ForeFlight Announces Support for iPad 2

We're happy to announce full support for iPad 2, available for purchase on March 11. Expect the same great ForeFlight Mobile experience - only faster! iPad 2 is 33% thinner and up to 2x faster than the current model.

If you buy a new iPad, make sure to sign into your ForeFlight Account the first time you run the app and your subscription will transfer over. Your ForeFlight HD and ForeFlight Pro licenses allow you to run the app on 1 iPad and 1 iPhone.

Meet Us at Sun 'n Fun!

We'll be exhibiting at Sun 'n Fun from Mar 29 to Apr 3. Look for us near the entrance of Hangar E in Booth 30. Stop by and say hi!
