Notice Number: NOTC2855 FAAST Blast — Week of March 07-11, 2011 Biweekly FAA Safety Briefing News Update Safety Standdown Web Site Is Live Experience Safety Standdown at Sun 'n Fun—even if you can't be there in person. The FAASTeam launched its new Safety Standdown Web site at www.FAASafety.gov/Standdown. FAA Administrator Randy Babbit introduces this new GA safety tool, which provides news and updates, FAA Safety Briefing features, and video introductions to the four Standdown themes: positive flight attitude, going beyond preflight, en route cruise, and maneuvering flight. You can also find Safety Standdown events in your area by searching the seminar map at the bottom of the page. Local Standdown events, which will be held around the country throughout April, are still being finalized. Check the Standdown Web site often for new seminars and other useful safety information. FAA Meets With Helicopter Community at Heli-Expo FAA representatives outlined budget challenges and thanked aviation community partners for collaborating with the agency to improve safety in a Meet the Regulators panel at Heli-Expo 2011, which wrapped up this week in Orlando, Fla. Panelists at the March 8 event, led by FAA Flight Standards Service Acting Director John McGraw, answered audience questions on public aircraft operations, proposed rulemaking on air ambulance and commercial aircraft operations (also known as the "HEMS rule"), and plans to update the night vision goggles policy. March/April Issue of FAA Safety Briefing Now Available The new issue of FAA Safety Briefing, available on the FAA Web site at http://www.faa.gov/news/safety_briefing/, supports the great safety outreach efforts the FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) is doing with its 2nd Annual Safety Standdown. The main Standdown event is on April 2 in Lakeland, Fla., in conjunction with the 2011 Sun 'n Fun International Fly-In and Expo. Also, FAASTeam members around the country are holding more than 90 local Standdown events. The articles in the March/April 2011 FAA Safety Briefing complement the four Standdown themes, which have been identified as areas where training and focus can improve general aviation safety. There is also an article on aircraft maintenance records that explains how some additional logbook know-how can help pilots and mechanics ensure their aircraft complies with all relevant regulations and airworthiness requirements.
