First of all, let us wish you happy holidays! As the end of 2014 grows near, we would like to thank you for your interest in Aero Glass. We have been working hard to tackle the predictable and unpredictable challenges of cutting edge technology, and are grateful for your continued interest.

 

In our quest to smooth out rough edges, we have come across new clients, teamed up with various partners, and received a new push. Please, read on, we'll explain everything.
 

Strategic partnership: Epson


Our strategic partnership with Epson continues to be a great source of inspiration and support for our platform. Our journey together started in the spring, and Epson has been aggressively supporting us ever since. They are firmly committed to Augmented Reality in the aviation industry over the long haul through our partnership. Epson also recognizes that you are an important asset and that the solution of the challenges we face right now is crucial to a future of aviation.
 

New strategic partnership: Qualcomm


Another great development is that we have established a relationship with Qualcomm. Qualcomm is not just a creator of high-quality chips that power smart glasses, they are the developers of the Vuforia computer vision platform, which provides vital features that are fundamental to Aero Glass - both for solving the head tracking challenge we're facing and making the visual checklist aid featured in our concept video a reality. Our early alpha demo of the checklist aid, which operates through hand gestures and instrument recognition already shows great promise.
 

If you happen to visit the Computer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next January, you'll be able to experience this in real life (see below). This is a powerful technology which is sure to have a significant impact on aviation. We'll send over a video for beta testers to get a first peek in the near future.

 

New ways to see: board of advisors

 

In case you hadn't seen our announcement in November, we have put together a very experienced team of advisors who are adding great value to the company and providing insight into the challenging waters of Augmented Reality technologies. We encourage you to check out this team on our website at http://glass.aero/#team: scrolling down you'll see the brain trust that we've assembled and a team of folks (many of them fellow aviators) who are absolutely committed to building this AR future. The list includes leaders in geospatial industry including Peter Batty; VR/AR veteran, Anselm Hook; and former Naval Aviator turned systems engineer guru, Timothy Sestak.


 

New ways to see: ODG glasses

 


We have established a new partnership with the Osterhout Design Group. ODG has been working on Augmented Reality glasses for a while, but only recently have they announced about their R6's for sale. These glasses are quite sophisticated as they have been designed for the military. We are currently testing these glasses with our software and we'll let you know how this develops over time. While these glasses will be many times more expensive than Epsons (and are only in limited supply) and perhaps too costly for much of the General Aviation market, some of you may be interested and all of you should know about them. They do have better sensors requiring less calibration and future versions will have sophisticated head tracking which we'll program for use in the cockpit. Let us know if you'd like to learn more.


New client: Airbus

 

In the wake of the above cooperation with the Osterhout Design Group, one of the world's leading aircraft manufacturers, Airbus, has also put its trust in the Aero Glass project. It is our great privilege that the Airbus Innovation Department based in Münich, Germany is now using our Aero Glass software on Osterhout glasses for internal testing and development.

 

New client: KLM Royal Dutch Airways

 

Let's make that a double: it is fantastic to see yet another important commercial aviation company, such as KLM share our enthusiasm and our faith in Aero Glass. We are proud to report that KLM Royal Dutch Airways has signaled its desire to become an early Aero Glass client, since the company sees great potential in the product.

 

Public appearance: Consumer Electronic Show

 


Want to meet us? Our strategic partners Epson and Qualcomm are  including us in their exhibition program for the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas (6-9th January, 2015).  If you are in the neighborhood, please visit the booth of either Company to catch up with us and our projects. In its 40+ years, this prestigious event gave place to thousands of innovation announcements - like the camcorder and the CD player (1981), the DVD (1996) or Ultra HD TV (2013) and 3D printers -, many of which have transformed people's lives. The CES showcases more than 3,500 exhibitors, has an extensive conference program and over 150,000 attendees. Aero Glass will be visible both at the Qualcomm and Epson booths at the Computer Electronics Show.
